HKBK stands for Helping Kids Be Kids.

Our group does fundraising for the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, NS, Canada. Created in early Spring 2013, our small but growing group presented a donation of $1399.33 to the 30th Annual IWK Telethon for Children! This was quite a large amount after only two and a half months of fund-raising by nine dedicated young ladies! The goal for the 31st Annual IWK Telethon for Children in June 2015 is to raise much more so we're hard at work early on to get events organized.

HKBK has grown in its membership and is always open to welcoming new members. We are eager to have anyone interested come check out our group! Enthusiastic and motivated people of all ages are encouraged to check out HKBK. Perhaps the best part of all, in addition to doing a great service for a terrific charity, our group has a lot of fun doing so! We've had slumber parties, beach days and a "Haunted Halloween Hospital" party fundraiser!

For Cpl Nathan Cirillo & WO patrice Vincent Family

The young boy in the video here, Joshua Cochrane of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, may appear as a familiar face and voice to those who have seen his charming smile on IWK Health Centre Foundation
posters and perhaps viewed his amazing performances during the Annual IWKTelethon for Children. The IWK is our HKBK;s home hospital, as it is for Joshua. For all the hundreds of shares on social media throughout the past days as our country mourns the loss of two more heroes, this is by far the most heart-warming, touching display of what it means to be a Canadian: to be proud, to be strong, to be free. Life is a Forest

Life is a forest
Large, full and verdant.
Each life, like each forest, is different.
Some are large and lush,
Others are small and barren,
While others still are somewhere in between.
However, all are important,
And all benefit the earth and each other, somehow.
Producing what they can, and taking what they deserve.
The forests all harbor darkness, however.
The underbellies of the woods hide vermin,
And the canopy shades places best ignored or left forgotten.
The pools and ponds of the forest lie placid,
The black waters reflecting the gnarled, rotten oaks on the banks.
But for every darkness, a light must exist.
Golden leaves and flowing streams cut through the lush green mosses,
While bright blue and red berries dot the wooded landscape.
Warm rays of sun penetrate the trees and provide life to the forest.
In life, like in a forest, a path may exist,
And you may choose to follow it,
Although breaking off into the undergrowth and forging your own path,
May yield the most fruitful results.
Brave the brambles and the cobwebs,
The thorns and the caves,
And you will find something that makes the whole journey worth it.

Love is a Shadow

Love is a shadow,
Dark, deep and murky,
Each shadow is unique, blessed with different features,
And all vary greatly from one to the other,
And different traits to define them.
All shadows, no matter the differences, have the same source.
The Sun, it its heat and violence, gives life to the shadows,
While powering the beings that sustain them,
The heart, a cornucopia of conflicting emotions,
Is home to that of love, among many others.
The heart also pumps blood, the life-giving liquid,
That sustains the body that contains the emotions.
There is one more thing that binds these two enigmas,
Shadows, the specter mirrors of all beings, and the maddening, suffocating emotions of love.
Both are conditional-shadows die along with their source, and reappear seemingly at will.
In the same way, love is conditional.
Affections come and go, and resurface as if on their own.
Both love and shadows disappear in the dark clouds and rain,
And those periods may last for a while.
But have patience and resolve, and wait for the sun to return,
And with it, the shadows that complete your being,
And the love that gives them meaning.
